Sorrell denies using WPP funds for prostitute

At the age of 73 Martin Sorrell resigned as CEO of WPP. His departure came days after the world's largest advertising company, WPP , launched an investigation against Sorrell for inappropriate conduct and alleged embezzlement.


However, new information published by The Wall Street Journal also indicates that his company was also investigating him for allegedly using company funds to pay a prostitute.

WPP has been warned that it cannot provide details of the allegations against Martin Sorrell because the dissemination of such details is prohibited by data protection law.

On the other hand, a spokesman for Sorrell said that he is completely prohibited from discussing the circumstances that were involved in his resignation.

When Sorrell's resignation was a fact, Roberto Quarta, CEO of WPP, said that he had resigned, "before the board of directors took into consideration the outcome of the investigation and determined whether or not it was appropriate to take action."

After two weeks, the WPP reported that the investigation had concluded and did not involve significant material amounts of money.

"Pursuant to this voluntary agreement, Martin will be treated as someone who has retired from the group, as detailed in the Director's Compensation Policy. He shares awards that will be prorated in line with the rules in force and that will cover the next five years, to the extent that the group's performance objectives are achieved.
