Senior European officials have accused the United States of profiting from the Ukraine war, Politico reports in an issue that could damage the West's united front against Russia. Senior officials tell the outlet that Joe Biden's administration is making a "fortune" from Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine , while European countries are harmed. "The fact is, if you look at it seriously, the country that is benefiting the most from this war is the United States, because it is selling more gas and at higher prices, and because it is selling more weapons ," declares an unnamed senior official. to Politico . "We are at a historic juncture. The United States has to realize that public opinion is changing in many EU countries ," he adds. The comments have been supported publicly and privately by some European officials, diplomats and ministers, according to the outlet. Europe is preparing for a difficult winter due to rising energy costs.

While oil prices have fallen back below pre-invasion levels, natural gas prices remain much higher and are likely to help push the eurozone into recession, according to the European Commission . Senior officials, including French President Emmanuel Macron, have called US climate legislation and the resulting gas prices "unfriendly." Another Politico article explains that sales to third parties of natural gas exported from the US are increasing prices in Europe. The 20 Jamaica Mobile Number List countries with the largest oil reserves in the world Oil refinery worker. A spokesperson for the White House National Security Council rejects the claims , in statements reported by the media: "The increase in gas prices in Europe is caused by Putin's invasion of Ukraine and Putin's energy war against Europe, and that's it. US natural gas exports to Europe "have increased dramatically and have allowed Europe to diversify away from Russia," the spokesperson added.

Senior officials are also angry with Biden's Inflation Reduction Act , a $739 billion (more than €710,000, at current exchange rate) bill focused on clean energy, which a Foreign Office official of France describes them as "discriminatory subsidies that will distort competition". "The Inflation Reduction Act has changed everything," an EU diplomat tells Politico : "Is Washington still our ally or not?" . An NPR article highlights how Europe increasingly fears its industries will flee to the US , in part because of the inflation law. Signs of discord between the US and the EU will be welcomed by Putin, whose troops have suffered major setbacks in Ukraine in recent months. A senior European Commission official told Business Insider : "The US and EU are working hand in hand to support Ukraine in its legitimate resistance to the Russian invasion, alongside G7 members and other partners.
