A VM (or virtual machine) is software that reproduces the functionalities and resources of a physical computer. Simply put, virtual machines are virtual environments that function as if they were physical computers with their own RAM, CPU, storage devices and network interface resources. By using a virtual machine, users can access all features and elements of an operating system on a physical computer. Virtual machines have an operating system, applications, programs and an internet connection. Data saved in a virtual machine can be stored on the HD, SSD or other storage media connected to the physical computer on which the virtual machine is configured. Furthermore, data from virtual machines can also be stored in the cloud.

The virtual machine's storage is in a separate location from the rest of the computer's other files that serve to host the virtual machine. Thus, if there is a malware infection in a hacker attack and the virtual machine is affected, it can be isolated Canada Mobile Database from other virtual machines and the operating system that serves as the host. Furthermore, they also help users to browse the web more anonymously . So, to summarize, virtual machines are virtualizations or emulations of computing systems, based on computational architectures and capable of providing almost all the functionalities of a physical computer. How do virtual machines work? Virtual machines work pretty much like any other program you run on your computer.

After choosing the virtual machine software and installing it on the device, you will need to perform initial configurations, which include selecting storage space, memory allocation, and operating system options for the virtual machine. Then, after making the settings, you will be able to access the simulated computer through a window, practically in the same way as any other program you use on your device. Instead of interacting directly with the physical machine, the virtual machine works with software or firmware components called hypervisors. The hypervisor works as a mediator (or intermediary) between the virtual machine and the hosting device. Then, the hypervisor coordinates the use of storage space and processing power. Furthermore, it also guarantees greater security and protection against threats, as attacks against a simulation cannot spread to other virtual machines.
